New Niece: Yao 瑶

Image
Let's revive this blog for awhile~ I miss blogging! I miss writing (casually)! I have a new niece!! OK she's already six month old by now, consider throwback lah hah! Chen (my sister and the mother of the new niece) asked my mom to help in her confinement month, to cook, to do laundry and what not. Her MIL helped during her first born but she couldn't make it for this one so my mom is up. Since I was in the middle of correcting my thesis, I promised to go along as assistant when my correction was done. Her expected due was supposed to be on the end of Feb, which was few weeks after CNY. Everyone already planned their things. I too already planned my things. Finished correction in two weeks - go to KL. However, thing took an unexpected turn. On the 19th 7am, Chen messaged on our group chat saying her tummy hurts and she will go to the hospital after drop off her first kid Xuan at nanny. Two weeks early!!! I told Sing (le new bf) about it and that I might have...

Since I wrote about Shirlyn, it's only fair to write about my new niece Zhi Xuan too. Haha maybe I'm the only one to think that LOL! 16th Nov 2015, eeearly morning about 6 something, I woke up, turned on my phone and I saw several WhatsApp messages from our sisters group, At 5.30am Chen said she felt the pain and going to the hospital, then I slept back. Got excited also lah coz OMG OMG OMG the baby is coming!!!!!!!!! Woke up again at 8am and she said she's still waiting for the doctor and to be admitted. Several messages going around like she's been admitted, delivery room still occupied, this and that. Rest In Peace, Ah Ma Batnar

Image
Ah-Ma as in ‘grandmother’, Batnar as in a place’s name – where she’s from. Ah-Ma Batnar aka my paternal grandmother passed away on 19 th Aug, Wednesday, aged 95. That day, I was busy preparing for the 8.30am badminton tournament in UUM that I missed my mom’s call at 6.30am.  The boys who are long-time tournament participants advised us to switch off our phone to avoid distraction. I didn’t read any messages until after I finished my miserable first single game.  After losing the first single game, I finally had the time to look at my phone and the first thing that came to my mind after I saw the message dad sent was:”Yikes~ What about the next game?” At that moment, I wasn’t feeling sad or anything, instead, I felt troubled that I might not be able to play on the next game which was on Friday. After settling everything, I went back home that night. I still wasn’t feeling sad or anything even when I saw her in the coffin, but Wee Shirlyn creep the heck ...

Ah-Ma Batnar (中文版)

Image

Flood & Things

Image
Last weekend, several states in Malaysia were hit by the worst flood in decades, including my hometown Kelantan (Kota Bharu town, to be exact). My house was fortunately spared from the flood but a lot of my relatives' houses and shops were badly damaged. On the first few days, I was very anxious and nervous while reading and looking the FB feeds, every Refresh or F5 came a new update on the water level, new pictures of affected places, even places I(we) never thought the water would go ever. At the same time, it was Christmas and the feeds were very much contradicting to each other as it was a mix between the flood and Christmas celebration. When the flooding went from bad to worse, I asked my sis "is the flood this time worse than the '04?" She said yes, and I shuddered.

Family Trip to Vietnam - SAPA

Image
Part 1: Hanoi , Part 2: Ha Long Bay , Part 3: Sapa Tour guide: ‘Zo’ Stay: Train + Hotel Fansipan View We were sent to the Hanoi train station by taxi, nearly late because of the road blocks of few roads due to the mid-autumn festival celebration (it’s a very big celebration in Vietnam). The Indochina Queen II Hotel assigned a bellboy to escort us from the hotel all the way to train boarding. Unlike the train ride in Hue, it seems a little more complicated to board the train in Hanoi. We were fortunate to have such a good service from the hotel to send a staff to guide us. The staff helped us to enquire about the tickets, waited with us for the train, and when the gate opened, he led us from the gate all the way to our cabin.

Cheng Beng aka Grave Cleaning Day

Image
Went back last year with some unfortunate sucks-big-time bus incident , and decided to go back this year too since mom's birthday was around the corner (6th April). The actual day fell on the 4th of April. On this day, we had a simple praying rituals going on such as serving food to the deceased (of all) and burned paper money for them. The weather has been so hot for the past few weeks, I literally drank the whole bowl of lychees and pineapples cordial once it was removed from the praying table! We went to the paternal side on Friday, along with my aunties, uncles and cousins. The routine was pretty much the same, started at Tanah Merah grandpa's and great grandparents'. To simplify the praying process, the granduncles from 'nearby' were 'invited' to 'join' along with great grandparents during 'food serving' and praying. From 'inviting', it would simply be carrying incense stick, went to their grave, 'asked' them to go o...

CNY 2013

Image
Pre CNY: 1) Did a DIY hair dye again this year, using the same Liese Bubble Hair Dye but tried a different shade of color - pinkish range Cassie Berry. Decided to do it two weeks prior to CNY is because by that time, the smell would gone and the color would be more obvious, so the timing is just nice~ Bought the box at The Store for a dirt cheap price, RM26! (Retail price would be RM32++) Then only I realized the manufacturing date was on July 2011, so I leave a note on Liese's FB page for enquiry, and the rep said there is a life span of 3 years for all Liese products. Since my scalp doesn't feel any discomfort yet, let's just touch wood and hope it doesn't comes with any side effects in the future. Anyway, the first wash after dye (and on photo too) showed a very distinct reddish and pinkish shade, but as time goes by, the color started to be blonde/yellowish. I must have not evenly applying the bubbles evenly this time again, the color on the front part (f...

Balik-ed Kampung last weekend for my godson Loke's birthday*, and some other stuff. *Loke's grandparents and aunties (who I am close with too) were surprised I showed up, so give face~ His mother has been asking me about it two months ago, how can I not give face leh!? As usual, dad came over to accompany back. During our way back, check this out! Look!!!  That poor fella was stuck at the wiper!! I was bored when I noticed something flapping on the windshield, and I took a close look at it - it's a butterfly!!! Since we were on the hilly road, there's no way we gonna stop to release it; at that point I thought it's dead! Oh hell no, it was so much alive when we stopped for fuel refill, I was so scared of releasing it because it flapped its wings! Ewww~ Finally it freed itself and flew away~ Frustrated stuff : If any of you is kind enough to take note of my FB status, you would know that I've been in deep shit frustration about my 3G mo dem + wi ...

Image

Weekend in KL

Image
Went to KL few weekend ago for some personal business and family gathering, since everyone including the baby was in town too. Shir-B-Lyn went to KL to visit her grandma who is sick and stays with her aunt in Puchong. There's some miscommunication on our side, that resulted me drive from North-South Highway, exit through Kota Damansara, to Danau Kota Setapak through Sprint Highway, then went all the way to Puchong via Duke + Penchala + LDP later. Luckily the heavy traffic didn't cramp my clutch-pressing leg -_- Shir-B-Lyn is still as cute as a button, but she was quite cranky at the time, I bet it tore her grandma's heart apart when she cried so loud towards her grannie. Bad bad girl Dad tried to comfort her After a few while, she's back to the smiley phase, and we played roll over in the bedroom. Rolled! She can roll to the left but has trouble rolling to the right Her aunt treated us dinner at a restaurant in Puchong. Getting ready to go out!! ...

I Am Wee ShirLyn

Image
P/S: I (the blog owner) was thinking about writing only one post of my dear little niece, but then it's not fair for those who can't read Mandarin, so here I am, writing about her in English, in first person narrative. P/P/S: I have been soooo lazy. Sorry for the much-delayed post. Hello world!! I think you might know who I am by now from my aunties' FB, and I acknowledge EVERYONE who say how freakingly cute I am (although I know it's the freaking truth!) . I was born in 6th June 2012, so I celebrated my full moon 'party' last Friday. Almost everyone was there, except my 姑姑s and 二姨 The 'Crocodile', but it's fine on my side because I've been grumpy and hard to please most of the times. I am now weighed at 4.6kg, and still has that hairy hair which make everyone screams of jealousy and excitement. I LOVE sleeping with my arms folded and raised beside my ears! So, sometimes my evil ah yi would disturb my sleep like: ^...this... Once in a while, I l...
