Guinea Pig Project

Image
Yup, I fall into the trap again haha! It all started during the MCO (Movement Control Order) period back in Mac-Apr, the tightest moment when everyone literally stayed at home. Hubby couldn't open shop so he stayed at home, almost died of boredom. I was okay though coz: 1) I'm one of those excellent stay-at-home people, I have tonnes of things to do at home! 2) My work is home-based so... well, that explains it. So, to ease hubby's boredom, I started talking about how I used to have guinea pigs as pets yadda yadda, then we both got excited. My excitement died down very fast but not him, in fact, he got more and more excited so I kinda yield to his interest lah. Then I started seriously lecture him about the responsibility of rearing this piggies, what to expect, what to do on daily basis, what to do on weekly basis, what they eat, what to buy, budget, vet, etc, and he was like, "Okay babe, I'm ready! Just tell me what to do and I'll do it!" Then, the mov...

The Chronicles of M&M: The End

Image
After painstaking consideration, I decided to let my boys go. It wasn't the first time I have this thought. In fact, the time when Mozzie passed away, I thought about putting up Manny for adoption, but somehow, I decided to give it another try and took Mojo in instead. This time, for so many reasons (that seems to be excuses after all), I put my boys up for adoption/sell and sold them to a youngster in KL. I have always wanted a pet of my own. I am always surrounded by pets, dogs in particular. My house has few dogs, both my maternal and paternal grandparents' places have dogs. However, these dogs weren't literally my pet. My duty was to release their latch and play with them, while all those daily routines like feeding, toilet train etc were done by my parents, mom in particular. When I moved to a new place with more space and the convenience of keeping a pet, I sorted to guinea pig, which has been my desire since 2004. One of the main reasons of wanting a pet is t...

The Chronicles of M&M: Progress

Image
Some updates, perhaps? Mojo has been with me for almost two months now, and *touch wood* so far so good. He eats well, drinks well, poops well, and plays well. He doesn't 'hop' on his big bro as much as he used to be, but he does popcorns and runs around a lot - a sign that he's happy - and that relieves me. One thing is certain about this fellow - he drinks a lot. Every now and then I would hear the 'clak clak clak' sound from the drinking bottle, and there little Mojo is, drinking the water. 9 out of 10 times would be him drinking and not his big bro, and every time he drinks, he drinks a lot (judging from the number of 'clak clak clak' he slurping from the bottle). At first I thought the water is not into his mouth that he needs to push the gauge more to get more water out of it, but checking on the mat below the bottle, nah~ this fellow loves drinking. Yeah I love exposing myself! So what!? Another cute feature about him is, the black and...

The Chronicles of M&M: RIP Mozzie & Welcome Mojo

This has been a little while now... 27th Nov, Tuesday: Woke up a little too early in the morning, went for a pee, sneaked back to bed. 9AM++, decided to wake up 'thoroughly', sneaked to their cage, and saw lil Moz lying still in his favourite half-transparent tunnel, not moving at all. Called him for a few times, when the big M freaked out and walked passed him (literally stepped on him) through the tunnel, and he didn't even dodge or get up to scold at big M, I knew something wasn't right. Stretched my hand into the tunnel to shake him and call him - not moving. My heart stopped a beat. While frantic big M ran round and round in and out of the tunnel stepping on lil M, I quickly took out a box, picked lil M out from the cage, and placed him inside the box. This is the same box that the seller use when I bought them. That day, they were so small size the box was only half full, both of them hid under the shaded side. Now, it's enough only for lil M...

没有林小毛的日子 - 第一个星期

Image

The Chronicles of M&M: It's Been A Year!!

Image
It's been a year!!! So that would mean Biggie Man is about 1 year 2 month old and Little Moz is 1 year old. One year ago , I finally decided, I wanted a pair of guinea pigs, the very first pet I have for myself. (Honestly and seriously. Yes I have dogs back in my hometown, but mom is the one 'compellingly' fully in-charge, my responsibility is only playing with them) A year ago, both of them were the size of my palm, I could easily grab them and put them on my palm, freaked the hell out of them. I think that's when they started frightened of me, and they still scared of me =( Failed bonding attempts =( Besides failed bonding, they also fail in toilet training, so I think that makes me not a thumbs-up owner? -_- This is their temporary cage layout while I was away for the weekend. The half-cage-half-solid-floor setup is to make my house-mate's life easier when he cleans after them. The green color mat thingy is a mosquito net, so their pee would flow to the ...

The Chronicles of M&M - Progress

Image
I felt sorry for not talking about them for quite some time in this blog, as it is now mainly about my adorable LinLin B, usual life stories and lack of blogging literally. So here we go... Both Mozzie and Manny have grown so much now, and they ate a lot more too. Now that we mention them, they are one year old!! Of course Moz is 1-2 weeks younger than Man, but who cares~ Moz is growing rounder and rounder now, his ass is HUGE! He now measures 960g. Fluffy after bath  Although he is the bigger size piggie, but he appears to be 'weaker' than his older bro. For the past two months, he had diarrhea for 1-2 days with unknown reason (since both of them share the same diet and the bro is all well), and the good timing of diarrhea too - right AFTER I change their bedding -_- Fluff and scared Manny is still the coward as usual, afraid of being picked up, afraid of being cuddled, afraid of being touched, afraid of everything! Differ from his inmate who grows ...

Jack-sitting + Uber & Thomas Cup

Theresa was away for a trip, so I was 'in-charge' of Jack-sitting. Theresa sms-ed me about Jack's depression when they were leaving the house, so me, the comforter, to the rescue after I finished my furbrats' stuff. (Oh, btw, lil Moz suffered a minor diarrhea few days back, causing the foul-smelling bedding and it's totally unpleasant, but luckily he was all good after a day of mushy poos) Jack is always a darling. He got all excited and jumping and running around the place when I came. I brought along my cross stitch kit to spare the time. No laptop this time since the screen was faulty and there's no way I brought along the monitor and stuff. Too troublesome! Although it's a free-and-easy weekend, but there's still a challenge for me. Morning: wake up at 8am to let Jack out for pee-pee time; brush teeth wash face; back home to settle the furbrats' meal and bedding cleaning; back to KP for Jack. Evening: let Jack out for pee-pee time (if appl...

The Chronicles of M&M - Vet Visit and Eye Treatment

Image
P/S: The new blogger layout is so complicated, I dislike it :-( *Post dated on 19th April... Progress from here ... I got cautious and doubts after the local vet department's diagnosis, so I emailed a vet, Dr. Jenny in KL (who is highly recommended by forumers and guinea pig owners) for a second diagnosis opinion, and I did the rightest thing!! Apparently, Neodeca contains steroid ( Dexamethasone on the label). According to Dr. Jenny, the steroid will not effect the guinea pig in general, but it is a form of steroid anti-inflammatory medicine which can help reduce swelling and pain but it can delay healing at the eye. According of Shin Yee, my chemist friend, steroid is very 'strong', it might heal the wound now but m ight not work if the same kind of wound or disease relapses in the future and there would be very hard to find some other alternative medicine. Not only that, Dr. Jenny gave few possibilities for the cause of the eye problem, including infection, i...

The Chronicles of M&M - OKU in the house :(

Image
:-( I am so freaking sad... It all started with his abnormal behavior. The ever active and energetic Moz suddenly went silent and stood still with head down on Monday evening, even when my hand approached him (Yeah, after 7 months of owning them, they still afraid of me) . After grabbing him out of the cage and inspect carefully, I saw a grey cloudy layer on his left eye, something like a cataract. Stupid me of not being cautious enough to send him to the vet, I decided to stay put and see how things go. On the next day (Tues), suddenly the defected eye has pus all over it, and it looked nasty. I hurriedly ran to the Jabatan Veterinari Negeri (State Veterinary Department) to ask whether they have treatment experience with guinea pig. With a yes, I sent him in to see the vet. By the time the vet looked at him, he shook his head and said:"Sorry, the eye is totally defected..." I was like:"He's blind!?!" :-( When I asked him if there's anything they can do abou...

The Chronicles of M&M - Transportation + Temporary Accomodation

Image
Not sure if it's right for me to say they bring me friendship luck or something, but ever since I keep them, I've known a bundle of friends who have been asking me out so often, home is just a place for me to sleep, and I begin to feel the 'exhaustion' and miss home so badly... IN Kangar. (Is not so keen to go out when I am in hometown...) One of the 'BIG' problems of keeping this two furbrats is the transportation and temporary accommodation. As they getting bigger now (Moz measures at 885g and Man 750g) , they need more space to feel comfortable when I bring them balik kampung with me. Hence, I come out with this idea: ^Blue, smaller one is for transportation; Black, bigger one is for temporary cage ^From heaven to hell!! But this cage is definitely much much better than the box that I used to carry them back once; better ventilation and all. Plus point is it's easier to clean! Last weekend I went back home again for cheng beng , but since it's only t...
